Jhana, Emptiness, Buddha-Nature
February 13-22
Online
Join me online for an immersion cultivating continuous samadhi and exploring the themes of emptiness and Buddha-nature.
The content of this retreat is pitched at intermediate and advanced practitioners, though beginners are also welcome to apply and attend. I’ll be reviewing foundational jhana practice as I learned from Leigh Brasington, though the bulk of the group instruction will be focused on insight into the themes of emptiness and recognition of our Buddha-nature. I suggest you read and review Leigh’s excellent manual, Right Concentration, before attending. If you’re less familiar with jhana and would like to focus on developing fluency for the duration of the retreat, that’s also welcome. The talks will be recorded and may be more useful for you later on.
Depending on how many people register, 1:1 practice interviews will be daily or every other day.
Though I recommend setting aside all activities besides practice for the duration of the retreat if possible, if you’re able to practice at least 4 hours a day or more while working or attending to other necessary responsibilities I want to facilitate your commitment to practice and participation.
Further details, including a full syllabus, will be forthcoming once I complete my current period of monastic training in mid-January.
If you would like to attend, please fill out the form below and I’ll be in touch. Responses will be delayed for now as I presently only access the internet inconsistently on Sundays.
Include why you’d like to come on the retreat and what your practice background is, including prior retreats and teachers worked with, if any. I request that you not apply or join if you are in the midst of a significant life or mental health crisis, something I am unable to support during the retreat.
This retreat is offered on the basis of your generosity (Dāna). A donation of $250-500 is suggested, though any amount is appreciated and no one will be turned away for inability to contribute.
